TOURNAMENT

Our first annual Popsicle Stick Tournament is history. Pictures and

words follow below. Note: All pictures are by Rick Eddington. Many thanks, Rick!

The first Annual Washago Popsicle Stick Pickleball Tournament is history and everyone agrees that it was an unequivocal success.  The Tournament Champions are Joanne Morehouse and Glen Hudgin (see below), but all of us who took part are winners. All 32 entrants drew popsicle sticks for each of six preliminaries, each game run in two heats. Based on accumulated points, the top 8 women and top 8 men went to the Quarter Finals. Then, the top 4 women and top 4 men went to the Semi-finals. Then, the top 4 drew for partners to play in the Finals. The winning team, as you know, was the partnership of Joanne Morehouse and Glen Hudgin. Glen is the force behind pickleball in Washago, while Joanne was the organizer of this tournament. Congratulations to Reserve Champs Ann Wicks and Rob Thomson. Thanks to all participants, spectators, our chef, our photographer and other volunteers. It was a great first tournament, with many more to follow. First, here’s a picture of all the entrants for 2019. Joanne Morehouse, the organizer of the event holds the plaque which has room for twelve years of winners. Champs for 2019 are Joanne and Glen Hudgin, far right. The pictures start with Finals pictures and work back through the day. 2 pages.  The winners, Joanne Morehouse and Glen Hudgin, receive prizes and the Annual Award Plaque from Glen Morehouse. Runners Up, Rob Thomson and Ann Wicks, receive congratulations and prizes from Glen Morehouse.   Glen, Joanne, Ann, and Rob, still friends after the Final match was complete. Thank you for a great game! Joanne makes a tough backhand return while Glen  gets ready to cover.  Glen reaches for a high return while Joanne runs to cover for him. Rob delivers a hard shot while Ann waits for the return from the other side.
